and i'm going to desperately search for the ref i used for this in my history until i find it because i never remember to keep it and when i do i will put it here and credit like a proper human being

Edit: whoops, here it is. [link]

ANYWAY moar shizune.

i need to stop but now that i did this i really wanna do one with lilly.

MS paint is so fucking difficult to work with though oh my GOD. I just can't get anything right.

this took HOURS TO DO. and if i had just stopped and started in sai that would have worked so much better but that means ms paint would have won >:C

but it won anyway because after i did the foreground i just said screw it and did the background in sai |D
BUT THAT WAS JUST SCRIBBLING GREEN EVERYWHERE SO

I really love the composition of the image and the fact that it was done in MS Paint.  Your skill is impressive!  I find it fitting the theme of the reference image and how it is applied to Shizune; the disconnected headphones, her deafness and how the rush of sound is beyond her perception.

That being said, it is my understanding of the deaf experience and deaf culture that sound is perceived visually and physically; e.g. dance, light shows synchronized to music and vibrations.  One of my deaf friends described to me that he enjoyed watching Micheal Jackson music videos because of the way the dance moves expressed the melody and its mood.  Along with feeling the vibrations of the speakers, he could get a sense of the music.

Speaking of music and deaf culture, I happened upon these fine folks, deaf rock band, 'Beethoven's Nightmare' (www.beethovensnightmare.com/).  Music video of their song 'Turn It Up Louder': youtu.be/2WkfI9GH_AI

Thanks! I wish there were more abstract ks fanart than fanservice fanart. There's so much more to the characters than that. :)

I found this in the gallery after spotting your "Blind" picture on recent posts. I'm taking a wild guess that this is part of some sort of series? ;) Also, after looking at the pictures, I'm guessing that what you're referring to when you talk about "solids" is that you're working with brushes with 100% opacity set (or the equivalent in whatever art program you're using)? You've done an astounding job at it -- it didn't immediately occur to me that it was all solid colors, no gradients, until I spent some time looking more closely at the details. I find it also fascinating that although the composition is very similar to "Blind," it still somehow conveys a different sort of energy -- seeming more violent (and loud, of course, though that's hammered home anyway) with the inanimate objects being strewn about, as opposed to the fluttering birds (and occasional flying apple) of the other piece. I also like how the action of the piece is balanced out by the fairly muted saturation of the colors -- no loud, bold, garish primaries here.

Short version: Wow! This is awesome! :D I look forward to seeing if there's more like this, and where else you might go with it.

You did an excellent job with the background. The somber colors really help set the tone
